About Sound Search
All three modes search pronunciations from the pinned CMUdict artifact in this data build (v1/2026.07-lexical.6). A word without a retained pronunciation never matches any sound constraint — its absence says nothing about how (or whether) it is pronounced. CMUdict primarily represents North American English, so stress, rhyme and first-sound facts can differ by dialect.
How the rhyme groups work
- Perfect rhymes share the seed's full rhyme key — every sound from the last stressed vowel to the end of the word.
- Multi-vowel slant rhymes are not perfect, but their last two or more vowel sounds match the seed's, compared within this build's fixed vowel families.
- Assonance shares only the stressed-vowel nucleus family — a vowel echo without a matching ending.
Limitations
- Rhyme grouping classifies each candidate by its primary retained pronunciation variant; the perfect-rhyme pool itself compares every retained variant.
- Slant and assonance grouping follow a fixed, build-specific rule (vowel families plus voicing-collapsed endings). They are a deterministic approximation, not a general poetic-nearness judgement.
- Stress patterns use digits per vowel sound: 1 primary, 0 unstressed, 2 secondary. A word matches when any retained variant's stress string equals the pattern exactly.
- Result tiers are build-specific ranking bands from this data build, not universal usage claims, and very large candidate sets are scanned within a fixed budget (a truncation notice appears when that happens).
