About the Spell Checker

The Spell Checker tests whether a spelling appears in our compiled source lexicon. Presence is not a universal ruling on correctness; regional, inflected, specialist, and newly coined forms vary by source.

How to use it

  1. Type the word you want to check into the search field.
  2. A green check mark appears if the spelling is present in the selected source tiers.
  3. If the word isn't found, suggested corrections are shown below.
  4. Click any suggestion to check that word instead.

Tips

  • Try common transpositions such as "recieve" to review suggested alternatives.
  • Include broader source-list matches to inspect entries outside the default tiers.
  • Reviewed detail links appear only when that entry has explicit editorial approval.
  • The checker accepts one alphabetic token at a time, not phrases or sentences.
