Everything on this page is generated locally from one compiled data release (data version v1/2026.07-lexical.6) — word lists and ranks come from the build's pinned source datasets, glosses are generated entries stored in this build, and pronunciations come from retained CMUdict variants. Content-filtered entries are excluded from every sheet and from the daily word.
How the daily word works
The classroom daily word is picked deterministically from the selected band's words (3–12 letters, gloss available) using a seed derived from the date, so every classroom loading the same date and band sees the same word. It is a separate surface from our reviewed word-of-the-day feature and carries no editorial approval.
Limitations
- Frequency bands are build-specific ranking bands of this data release, not graded reading levels; treat them as a rough difficulty proxy only.
- Glosses are generated, unreviewed entries; read a sheet before handing it out.
- Word-search filler letters are seeded at random and can form incidental letter strings; the answer key marks only the intended words.
- Pronunciations reflect CMUdict, which primarily represents North American English.
- Grids run 10×10 to 18×18 with up to 20 hidden words; words that cannot be placed are reported rather than silently dropped.
